The Ravens in The Tower

Many of you will have visited the Tower of London where you may have seen those large black birds called ravens. Legend has it that the British Empire will fall when the Ravens desert the Tower. The Ravens, however, are still there though the Empire was lost long ago. Perhaps it is because they cheated; the ravens of the Tower have their wings clipped so they can't fly away. A cheap device which deserved to fail. After all, if we take the case of the geese which saved Rome by cackling when danger approached, even the Romans wouldn't have considered muzzling the birds an effective way of ensuring the safety of the city.
